Leah-Stephens

Leah Stephens has been teaching public school music for the past 17 years. Since 2018, she has been the K-8 Music Specialist at Sor Juana Elementary School in Chicago, where she is a founding teacher. Leah completed her undergraduate studies in music education at Florida Southern College and holds a Master of Music in music education degree from Northwestern University. She is a National Board Certified Teacher (2019, 2024), a Funds for Teachers Fellow (2017), and a Fulbright-Hays Seminar Abroad recipient (2014).

Originally a pianist since the age of 9, Leah has been playing accordion for the past four years under the direction of Mary Ann Covone. She has successfully completed the Level 3 Syllabus exam on the piano accordion, has played in the festival orchestra of the Accordionists and Teachers Guild International (ATG) for the past three years, and serves on the Executive Committee of the ATG as Second Vice President. She recently began studying the chromatic button accordion (C system) and is a student of Michael Bridge.
