Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I need to read music?
You do not need to know how to read music to begin playing the accordion. You will learn to read in both the classes and private lessons.
- What if I never played before?
If you never played before, you should enroll in Accordion 1 or private lessons. By the end of your first class or private lesson, you will be playing a song and reading music!
- Do I need to have an accordion?
You will need an accordion to begin classes. We will have accordions available to rent and/or purchase.
- How often do you meet?
Typically, you will have one lesson or class per week. Once you have some experience, you will be invited to join the accordion band which also meets once per week.
- Do you take beginners?
We welcome beginners and look forward to teaching you.
- What if I have not played for several years?
I suggest you begin with a private lesson, so we can determine what learning environment will be best for you – classes or private lessons.
- Where do you give lessons?
All lessons will take place at the Academy.
- How can I find an accordion?
If you want to purchase an accordion, we will help you find one. If you already have an accordion, we will evaluate your current instrument and advise you on next steps.
- Am I too old to start learning an instrument?
You are never too old to start playing an instrument. No matter what age you are when you begin, you will enhance your life by learning to play and by playing with a group.
- Will I be given sheet music?
You will need to order some music through Amazon, and you will be provided with some sheet music in your lessons/classes.
- Will there be additional classes after 5 weeks?
Classes will continue as long as there are students who wish to participate.
- Will I need to perform for people?
Performance opportunities will be available but entirely optional.
